Why this blog...

I started posting my reflections on Catalan politics, nationalism and independence in my blog YuriBCN in Catalan. Yuri is Russian for George [just thought it sounded exotic ;-)] and BCN is the code for Barcelona airport. But since most people don't know Catalan, and English is, after all, the current lingua franca of the world, I decided to publish George from Barcelona. Welcome.

Barcelona or Figueres (Empordà), depending on my state of mind, Catalonia, always!
I earn a living (+/-) as a FLOSS Internet applications consultant to SMEs, but what I really like, apart from politics, is listening to music, live or recorded: whatever, from baroque and classical to Jaga Jazzist and Skalpel, with CPE Bach and EST in beetween. I even listen to Cool and Hard Bop, Joss Stone and Christina Aguilera: What a voice! Wasted on pop. Moved away from NW London (Dollis Hill) years ago and now live in Barcelona, though I would really love to go and live in the Empordà, a rural area in NE Catalonia. The selector list only gives me the nearest option as either 'Madrid' in Spain or 'Andorra', but my country is Catalonia - Catalan is spoken in Eastern Spain: Catalonia and Valencia; the Balearics: Mallorca, Menorca and Eivissa (Ibiza); Southern France (Pyrénées-Orientales department); and a tiny location in Italy: l'Alguer (Alghero) in Sardinia; plus Catalan is the official language in Andorra.
